Allie Tran

Jack of all trades, master of none Ph.D of Multimedia Analytics

I am a Postdoctoral Researcher at the ADAPT Centre, Dublin City University, where I explore how humans and AI can work together to interpret and make sense of multimodal activity data. My research sits at the intersection of multimodal retrieval, interaction design, and data visualisation, with growing interest in reflective and socially-aware systems that help people and groups understand their experiences through data. At the moment, I am working on SelfHealth, a commercialisation project that aims to develop a tool for analysing daily life activities using multimodal data from wearable devices, such as smart glasses and smartwatches. This tool will benefit people with chronic conditions, such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, by providing insights into their daily habits and suggesting improvements for better health outcomes.

Outside research, I enjoy exploring creativity through music, art, and languages. I’ve built small projects in music generation and VR lifelog visualisation, reflecting my curiosity about how technology can support expression and understanding. I’m also deeply interested in linguistics and psychology, especially how language and perception shape the way people think and interact.

My name(s)

Although I prefer to be called Allie, my Vietnamese name is Duyên, which means "fate" or "destiny".

In Japanese and Chinese, it is written as 緣 (yuán) or 縁 (en). Hence, some might know me as Yukari (ゆかり), which is the Japanese reading of the same character.
